Emily Garcia

PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT: Benedictine College

JOB TITLE:  Assistant Athletic Trainer- Men’s and Women’s Basketball

FAVORITE ASPECT OF JOB: Getting to know a student-athlete through the course of their college career, and then getting to share in their celebration with them when they reach one of their goals.

MOST UNIQUE CASE YOU HAVE SEEN THUS FAR IN YOUR CAREER: During my first internship, I had a basketball player diagnosed with bilateral femoral neck edema (stress reactions of the femoral necks).  The doctor told him he wasn’t allowed to do weight bearing exercise for 6 weeks and needed to lose around 30lbs.  This player was also 7’, so getting him on a stationary bike was practically impossible.  Our best option was swimming, but of course- he didn’t know how to swim.   I was able to teach him the basics, and with the help of the S&C coach he was able to lose the weight and return to the court.

ULTIMATE CAREER GOAL: Athletic trainer for an Olympic team (either basketball or track & field)
