NATA Member Renewal Season is Open

As a reminder, member renewal season launched Oct.1, 2017.   All NATA members who renew their 2018, membership by Feb. 15, 2018 will receive 10 free CEU credits (a $150 value) to use in the NATA Professional Development Center between Feb. 16, 2018 and Dec. 31, 2018. Don’t forget, you can donate to the NATA Foundation, NATAPAC and subscribe to Sports Health when you renew.

Professional Development Center (PDC) Updates – Reminders for those needing last minute CEU’s

As we move toward the end of the reporting year, Dec. 29 is a Friday, and is the last day NATA staff will be in the office. This is particularly important to those who will use the NATA Professional Development Center (PDC) to attain last-minute CEUs. The center is of course open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, but staff assistance will not be available after Dec. 29, 2017.

One of the enhancements in the PDC was the addition of a purchase expiration date. This is the date by which the user must complete the course. This date is generally 12 months from the date of purchase If not completed by the purchase expiration date, the course is removed from the user’s purchases. They have the option to purchase again if so desired. Reminders will be received prior to expiration. This allows more flexibility to keep content fresh. For more details on purchase expiration dates visit the PDC.

Strategic Issues in Athletic Training Lecture Series – Coming Soon

Annually, the Professional Development Committee’s Strategic Issues in Athletic Training Lecture Series is offered to the districts as a session held at their district meetings. The 2018 topic is the Disablement Model.

All members of the Strategic Alliance selected to adopt or endorse the International Classification of Function, Disability and Health (ICF) with the Children and Youth (ICF-CY) updates as the disablement model framework for the profession. ICF provides a holistic view of health, which aligns well with athletic training and helps to establish a common language across many groups that athletic trainers interact with including various disciplines, services and countries. The model provides a broad framework with which to assess patients and clients.  Because implementation of this model is relatively new, the presentation aims to provide foundational information regarding disablement models and tools and tips for clinicians to assist with implementing the framework into their clinical practice.  Look for more information on these presentations in the very near future.

Lastly, as the Fall sports seasons wind down, we look forward to 2018 and the MAATA annual meeting in La Vista, NE  March 15th-17th.  Information on the meeting can be found here.  The MAATA annual meeting is one of the best district meetings held nationally and arguably is one of the best values for CEU’s an AT can attend.  Thanks to our great convention programming and educational programming committees, La Vista was a great success last year with overwhelmingly positive feedback from attendees.  This year is shaping up to be even better.  We look forward to seeing everyone there.  As always, please reach out if there is anything I can do to help with any NATA related issues.  Our members are our strength.
