District Director Spring Update

April 3, 2015

Dear MAATA Members,

Greetings!  I hope you had a chance to attend the annual meeting in Omaha.   We had 891 members attend… a new record!  Thank you to all that were involved in organizing the meeting, as well as those who attended.  Congratulations to John Roslien, Doug Long, and Jim Rudd (friends and family) on being inducted into the MAATA Hall of Fame.  All three of these members have served the profession and Association in a manner well deserving this honor.

In District V news, we have an election for district secretary.   We have two great members in Michelle Boyd and Lana Loken.   They deserve your time to vote for one of them, so please take a minute and vote.  I also want to thank the membership for approving all three NATA By-Law changes.  Article 5.1 adding Samoa to District Eight, Article 6.4 changing board terms to three years with an additional two years if re-elected, and Article 5.1 two votes per district for NATA Presidential election process.  I updated everyone in the district business meeting, but if you were not there you can find a detailed report in the minutes from the business meeting.  If you need further information, feel free to look at the NATA Board of Director minutes at www.nata.org/volunteer-resource-center/board-minutes .  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at mcdonnelld@missouri.edu or call (537) 882-2854.

Don’t forget to make plans now to attend the NATAPAC breakfast on Wednesday June 24, 2015 at 7:00 AM.  NATA Hall of Famer, Charlie Thompson, will be the speaker.  It is only $50 to attend.  For an additional $50 you can bring a young professional or student with you and let them see what it’s all about.  I always bring a guest.  It is a great way for your guest to have the opportunity to hear a great speaker, meet the NATA leadership, and NATA Hall of Famers.  Please considerate it this year.

I would also like to remind you to get your NPI number because it’s important and easy to do.  It just takes a minute and allows us as a profession to be counted.  Even if you will never bill for services, please take a minute and get your number.

Lastly, I want to remind you that the NATA Annual meeting is in St. Louis this summer.  Amy Schork, ATC from St. Louis is serving the host chair, and will need volunteers to help out.  You can get a partial reimbursement of your registration fees for helping.   It just depends on how much time you want to volunteer.  Please contact Amy at wiezorekschork@hotmail.com if you are interested.

This will be my last letter for the newsletter as District Director.   I want to take this time to thank you for allowing me the opportunity to serve you and our association as the Newsletter Editor, District President, and District Director.  I have really enjoyed it.  Mark Coberley will be taking over on Thursday June 25, 2015 at the NATA Annual Meeting.  I look forward to his leadership and vision for the association.

Respectfully Submitted,

Dwight Eric McDonnell, M Ed, ATC, LAT
NATA District V Director
